A PI signs everything but never reads it. How do you fix that without a fight?

Make the reading smaller. Flag the two lines that changed, not the 40 pages. Ask for ten minutes with the amendment on the table and walk them through the parts that touch their patients. Put 'reviewed with PI on date' in a note to file. It protects both of you.
